I love this picture. It was the hardest day of my life. It would be easy to look at this photo and be reminded of my failure, but instead, I grin and say “I’m comin’ back!” I’m smarter, I’m stronger, and I’m more determined than ever. Third time’s the charm – unfinished business – if you get bucked off, get back on … you choose the cliche’ you like, but I like “Down, but not out.”
Those of you who know me best know I usually am not at a loss for the written word. But, when it comes to this year’s Tour Divide (TD), I haven’t had much to write. Why? I have no idea. But, I’ll try.
Above all, I’m thankful to God who has blessed me with the health and the means to ride this race. I’m grateful to my wife, Claire, who is supportive of me and all the time and money I’ve poured into this effort. I’m mindful of all those I ride with who, without even knowing it, help me get out of bed and ride my bike every day. For all of those “blue dots” past and present — many thanks for your knowledge and inspiration. And finally, thanks to those of you who ride with me in spirit — it’s an epic journey and I’m honored to have you along.
